If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
1 John 1:9 is often referred to as the Christians bar of soap. We would not neglect our own personal hygiene nor should we neglect our spiritual hygiene. Confessing our sin is to acknowledge it before God and be in agreement with him about it. His faithfulness to forgive frees us to live without the weight of our sin. Why would we hold on to it? It is no benefit to us when we have so generously been given a way to clear it.
Jesus came that we may have an abundant life (see John 10:10). Often it is assumed that the Christian life is all about keeping a relentless set of rules but God sent Jesus for our freedom and for the opportunity to live life in all its fullness. Yes, there will be hard things to work through in life, that is just a part of living in a world that is not perfect but living with unforgiven sin is not something we have to endure.
Let me encourage you to pause now and ask for his cleansing forgiveness and enjoy every bit of today!
