As the credits rolled on the final Christmas Special of Downton Abbey I was left wondering why Lady Edith never wore the family’s diamond tiara. After all, she completely out-played Lady Mary in the pursuit of rank in the Peerage of Great Britain by marrying a Marquess. Could there have been a better occasion to hire the gorgeous Georgian diamond floral tiara from Bentley & Skinner for the last episode? Perhaps the it was thought it would have been a bitter reminder to Lady Edith of her last trip up the aisle.
Lady Edith was completely transformed from the frumpy overlooked middle child, to quite simply the most glamorous lady on the show in the last few seasons. I mean, the bright autumn colours, golden tones and of course, the fur! She looked amazing! It would have just been the perfect ending if she had worn Bentley & Skinners stunning tiara on her wedding day.
Bentley & Skinner specialise in fine antique jewels and are the jewellers who have this beautiful piece available for hire. This garland spray of leaves and floral clusters, pave-set throughout with old-cut diamonds, weighs an estimated total of 45 carats. It requires a substantial deposit but when it comes to diamonds nothing beats the real thing! Also, their Instagram account is quite breathtaking for anyone needing a diamond fix. A girl can dream, can’t she?
